About Chappell Prison Consulting

Clarity. Safety. Strategy. Survival.

Most federal defendants walk into prison scared but uncertain. People labeled special-risk walk in knowing the stakes are different, and the consequences are real.

Chappell Prison Consulting was built for them.

Why This Firm Exists

Founder Dale Chappell spent years in federal custody across multiple levels: detention centers, county jails, protective-custody units, lockdowns, mediums, lows, and even a USP. Labeled “special-risk” from the beginning, he had no guide, no expert, and no roadmap. He learned the realities of survival the hard way.

During that time, Dale made himself a promise:

“If I ever got out of this alive, I would do whatever I could to help others avoid the same hell.”

That vow is the foundation of this firm.

What Makes Us Different

Chappell Prison Consulting isn’t built on theory, policy, or secondhand stories.
It’s built on lived experience, legal expertise, and proven results.

We understand:

  • how special-risk designations change housing decisions
  • how safety depends on reading the room, not listening to rumors
  • the difference between what staff say and what actually happens
  • how to help families support their loved one without increasing risk
  • how to prepare clients mentally, emotionally, and strategically
  • the realities of reentry when the system seems designed to make you fail

When Dale was released, a hostile BOP case manager refused to submit necessary paperwork, deliberately sending him to a district with no ties, no support, and no housing. He walked out of prison straight into homelessness. He rebuilt his life from the ground up and turned that experience into a roadmap for others.

That resilience, and the clarity that came from it, shapes every service Chappell Prison Consulting provides.

Proven Experience

After years of studying federal law, writing briefs, and helping more than thirty incarcerated people obtain early release, Dale was recruited by a federal law firm to guide their clients, especially those with special-risk designations, through prison and back into society.

Their trust in his expertise is part of what led to the creation of Chappell Prison Consulting.

Today, with more than 450 published articles on federal custody and reentry, Chappell Prison Consulting blends real-world experience with legal insight to give clients the guidance they can’t get anywhere else.

Our Mission

Chappell Prison Consulting helps people with a special-risk label entering or leaving the Bureau of Prisons:

  • understand the environment they’re walking into
  • reduce fear by replacing rumors with accurate information
  • develop a concrete plan for the first days, weeks, and months
  • avoid the mistakes that put special-risk inmates in danger
  • prepare families for what actually matters
  • build a viable path forward after release

No fear tactics.
No sensationalism.
Just the truth and practical strategies that work.

Your Situation Is Unique. So Is Our Approach.

Every client faces different circumstances, pressures, and risks. We don’t give one-size-fits-all advice. We give your loved one the roadmap Dale never had.
